Perse Coding Challenge 2023 (Final Round) - Distinction
Perse Coding Challenge 2022 (Final Round) - Merit
Australian Informatics Olympiad 2022 - Bronze
BEBRAS Computational Thinking Challenge 2022 - Bronze
Description:
These various coding competitions I have participated in and highlights how they have contributed to my passion for computing and strength in computational thinking. These competitions have aided in developing my skills in distinct ways, and I will explain each of them below.
Firstly, the Perse coding challenge showcases the importance of teamwork and communication skills. Completing the allocated problems with distinction requires the effective communication of ideas, task allocation and the utilisation of software and services such as Visual Studio Code's live sharing feature. The competition demands a collaborative approach that emphasises the significance of working together to achieve a common goal.
Secondly, the Australian Informatics Olympiad focuses on a smaller number of more complex questions, which require deep-critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Participants are expected to take a mindful and well-considered approach and thinking-strategy to solve the given problems. This competition challenges one's ability to analyse and comprehend problems at a fundamental level, thereby building the cognitive muscle to solve more complicated tasks Involves knowledge of File I/O and time constraints.
Thirdly, the BEBRAS challenge places a significant emphasis on computational thinking, which includes decomposition, pattern recognition, generalisation and algorithmic thinking. This competition helps to strengthen the problem-solving abilities of participants, as they are required to utilise computational thinking strategies to solve the problems effectively.
Furthermore, it's worth noting that all of these competitions have a tight schedule, with participants being subjected to strict time constraints. This aspect of the competitions puts pressure on me and challenges me to perform at my best under difficult circumstances. In essence, these time-limited challenges push me to my limits and allow me to develop the mental fortitude needed to perform well under pressure.
Overall, these coding competitions have helped to shape my approach to problem-solving and enabled me to program in a more efficient and intelligent manner. These competitions have contributed to developing my skills in teamwork, critical thinking, and computational thinking, and I believe they will continue to shape my approach to computing in the future.
SST-NP-SUTD BIG-D Camp
Description:
This is a 3-day camp @ SUTD accompanied by two pre-camp sessions @ Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The objective of this camp is to solve current real world problems via real world solutions and technologies available. We were split into different groups depending on our various applied subjects, computing, electronics and design studies. Since we all have different strengths, it is important for us to work closely with one another to come up with a working and effective solution.
The pre-camp session helped me to pick up new skills like 3D-modelling in Fusion 360, and reinforce previously taught knowledge like Arduino programming via C++ and circuit design. The camp itself also provided us with our own workstation with equipment like an Arduino set, laser and 3D-printing.
I worked with my teammates to create our circuit and develop the relevant code to go along with it. This experience helped me foster real world collaboration skills, working under time pressure and peer pressure, to complete our tasks. It also tests my resilience as there were many problems that kept propping up. Overall, the final product was not as successful as we had hoped, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience and I am grateful for this opportunity.
AI Singapore & CISCO CyberSpark Courses
AI Singapore: This course primarily educated me on the morals and ethics of Artificial intelligence, biassed data, confirmation bias, etc.
CISCO: This CyberSecurity course enlightened me on various cyber-related advancements in recent items like hashing methods, packet sniffing, AES encryption, vulnerability databases, advanced persistent threats (APT) and many more. It also taught me vulnerabilities of communication protocol technologies like File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

The Investigative Skills Science Project was conducted over the course of several months in 2021. As part of the project, we were given the freedom to choose our own research themes and conduct research on them using proper scientific procedures. This involved writing a proposal that included an abstract, theoretical background, and proper citations to references. We then conducted the experiment, meticulously recorded the data, and analysed it before concluding the hypothesis, practical applications, and areas for further study.
Through this project, we were able to achieve impressive results, earning titles for two international science research competitions. Additionally, we were given the unique opportunity to present our findings to a partnering-school in Japan, Kumamoto Kita High School.
Overall, this project provided us with valuable experience in conducting scientific research and presenting our findings to others.
