Active Citizenship Education (ACE) Leader (2021-2023)
Description:
The Active Citizenship Education (ACE) board is a leadership board in SST which provides a platform for students to be engaged in active citizenship and be transformed by service learning. We have many projects which aim better for the community, either through advocacy or direct/indirect service. I was in certain ACE projects like ACE@SCS and Food Drive, which provide help to the community in their respective ways. I also played a part in various activities such as shown in this page. These events help promote the spirit of advocacy and service learning, in service of humanity.
Through these student-driven, eye-opener opportunities, I got to develop and foster my leadership, communication, facilitation skills, and much more.
Games 4 Migrants SST-MWC
Description:
This is a student-led, student-initiated project which aims to make our migrant workers feel more included and appreciated through online learning materials/games that introduce them to various Singaporean cultures.
This is a student initiated project that originated from the passion of a few students. As vice chairperson for the project, I helped lead the team in completing a successful and impactful project. As vice chair, I oversaw the overall progression of the project, helped with the proposal and created the website. I also served as the liaison with the Migrant Workers’ Centre, the organisation we were working with.
Singapore Cancer Society @ ACE
Description:
Is a partnership between students from SST & members from SCS. Provides a pathway for students to advocate for the issue, helping to raise funds for the organisation among other things.
I was part of a group of ACE leaders who worked with Singapore Cancer Society to collaborate on events like Relay For Life (RFL) and Race Against Cancer (RAC). Throughout the year, I worked with my team to coordinate projects. Examples of this include advocating for the RAC event, creating awareness and even helping SCS as an usher during the Race Against Cancer marathon run.
ACE Interactions @ Hendersons
Description:
ACE Interactions 2022 is a project that aims to improve the quality of some residents living in the Henderson area. I was part of the team which went down to one of the many residential flats to conduct a quick meet and greet session, to better understand their problems and interests.
This project really strengthened my critical thinking and communication skills as we often have to communicate with elderly people who might be really weak in English and therefore relies on mandarin and chinese dialects, languages which I do not have the most confidence in. We also had to go through many units which were stressful and had to answer sudden questions. All in all, it was an insightful and meaningful activity that broadened my view through service learning.
LABB 2021-2022
Also known as Learning Alliance Beyond Borders, this project is meant as a replacement to the physical Overseas Learning Experience (OLE) experience pre-COVID. It is a project which helps SST students interact with students from other nations, strengthening our cross-cultural understanding.
On top of that, I was also the facilitator for this project. Thus, it developed my facilitation skills, collaboration, leadership and cross cultural understanding. It was particularly rewarding as I learnt how to navigate through the language barriers to facilitate and drive the discussions between us and our overseas partnering schools.
